Yosemite National Park – Mist Trail

The Mist Trail in Yosemite National Park starts by Happy Isles in the Valley and goes 2,000 ft up Vernal and Nevada Falls 3.5 miles. It is an amazing, historic trail. Larry and I got to unexpectedly go to Yosemite and hike it due to the unseasonably warm weather on December 30 and 31st. This is also part of the Half Dome Trail that goes 8 miles up to the top of Half Dome. The trail is named for the mist that comes off of Vernal Falls and wets the granite steps and hikers. The trail is usually closed during this time of year, but since the Valley temp had a high of 60 degrees, it remained open.

We started our hike at 8 am on Sunday, December 31st. There were not many people on it which was a real treat. We made it to the top in about 2 and a half hours. I was exhausted by the time we finished. It was wonderful to be able to take Larry and see him experience Yosemite and hike part of the Half Dome Trail. It is such a special place to be in.
